The coronavirus is a mess, and it shows how incompetent the U.S. government is.
Everyone is looking to blame the president and wondering where their free money is.
This is the same government that didn’t see the pandemic coming.
This is the same government that potentially sent money to a Wuhan lab that helped unleash this virus.
This is the same government that has infectious disease branches of the government and military that are supposed to protect us from things like this.
What makes you think the government will save you now?
Everyone in the government is worried about being reelected. They are also worried about doing the wrong things so that they don’t get kicked out of office from impeachment or ethics violations.
This is not environment for them to come up with creative ideas. Fear of not being reelected is not a great motivator. All politicians are worried about is being slightly better than their political rival.
Additionally, we have fights between the federal government, state government and municipal governments. Who is in charge of what? Who knows? They all have different deadlines for reopening. I live in Texas. Texas is more right-leaning than the U.S., but there are municipalities that are extremely liberal in Texas like Austin. This leads to conflicts in guidance and solutions.
It has also been reported that they already spent much of the stimulus money with most Americans not receiving anything.
It’s unreal how much bail out money the government can come up with without making an impact on most American’s lives.
What this means is that we must come up with solutions ourselves, and we also must help each other. You should try to do what you can to come up with solutions to help people.

System for getting money directly to people in need during a crisis.

Increased surveillance on china – There have been many viruses coming out of china. The Chinese government has shown that they are incapable of looking out for their own people and the good of the world. We need increased surveillance on china. We need to be prepared to shut down travel to and from China when we notice a future virus coming from that country.
Increased disclosures in 10-k’s for a company’s reliance on China – Any company that takes public investment in the U.S., should have to disclose how much that company depends on Chinese production. The reliance on China is destroying our lives in America. We should know how much a company relies on China. People should also be able to vote with their dollars on the companies that produce their goods outside of China.
System for getting people pandemic care packages in the future – This includes masks, gloves, contact tracers and other items the government wants us to use during a pandemic. The government should not use our phones to track us because then those items will be abused by companies like google and facebook.
The government needs to build PPE manufacturing plants – How can we spend trillions of dollars and just rely on 3rd party suppliers? The government has to negotiate with firms like 3m to produce ppe while they still send out supplies to foreign countries. Although I believe in limited government, I do not trust companies like 3m to make enough supplies in an emergency. I also do not trust 3m to be able to distribute supplies efficiently to all 50 states. The federal government should pay to set up ppe manufacturers in each state or at the very least in major states. Those major states could then create supplies for neighboring smaller states. This can be done very efficiently by first focusing on the largest cities and the largest hospitals in those cities. Everything can be branched out from there.
Protection policies for workers during a pandemic. There should be protection systems and protocols in place during a pandemic. What if essential workers get sick. We should have policies in place to keep workers safe. If they get sick, they should be taken care of and so should their dependents. Alternatively, pay should be increased to account for increased risk.
