I’ve been trying to brainstorm tons of different ways to make money. I am always trying to figure out the best way to increase income while also maximizing efficiency. Society, at least American society, tries to tell us to grind all the time to make money. I don’t think a person is meant to “grind” their whole lives. Our energy levels can’t be sustained at 100% for 16 hours a day for the rest of our lives. People get sick and go through different situations.
I also don’t think people should be automatically look towards a job for income. Starting your own business is hard and their are many hurdles and regulations to deal with along with threats of lawsuits. However, if we want to create more wealth and better lives for people, I think people should first look to starting a business and then employment secondarily.
With that being said, this is going to serve as my post of ways to earn money.
- employment – easy to get a job because the profits mainly go to the person employing you
- earning small percentages of large amounts – this includes earning income from things like being an investment manager or a manager of creative people that make millions of dollars. This is difficult to do because you have to show value to the people you are making money for or you have to already have lots of capital under management. Many investment firms aren’t good at making money, but they have a good name brand and good marketing. You either have to be good at making capital or good at branding and marketing.
- service fees – You can earn service fees from things like consulting. This can be a good revenue stream if you have large clients. However if you are only earning small chunks at a time, it’s hard to scale this. This is similar to employment because you are selling slots of your time.
- selling physical goods – You can sell a physical good which can be extremely profitable as long as you can scale it. Apple is one of the largest companies in the world from selling an iphone. This requires a lot of research depending on your good. You must also manufacture and distribute your good.
- amazon fba – Amazing fba is where you basically wholesale a product and sell it on amazon for retail value. Many people source their products from China and then resell them on Amazon. Supply chain issues have been brought up with the coronavirus, so I’m not sure if this is an ideal scenario going forward.
- writing a book – Easy to do now with Amazon. It takes virtually no time to set up your ebook on amazon after you write it.
- selling a course online – This is a good way to make money. You invest time in building one course online, and you can make money into perpetuity.
- patreon, paywalls etc. – Gatekeep certain content and charge money for people to access. Many people charge for access to content that is behind a paywall. Patreon is one of the most popular platforms for artists to sell private content. However, it is hard to make money on these platforms without a following.
- Youtube – you can make money on youtube from advertising. However the ad rates are often terrible, and you have to upload frequently. There is also the danger of youtube demonitizing you and just changing anything about the platform that could impact your ad revenue at any point.
