Love yourself like your life depends on it is a book written by Kamal Ravikant. Kamal Ravikant is a successful entrepreneur.
What many people don’t know about Kamal Ravikant is that he suffered through depression for multiple reasons. He had a business that failed, a relationship that failed and he also lost a friend.
These things led him to be greatly depressed and suicidal.
This depression is what led to the events in this book. He ultimately wrote a vow to love himself no matter what. He turned this into a personal mantra and that is what a great portion of this book is about.
This book is broken into 3 parts:
1. The vow
2. The manual
3. The Lesson
This book is written more like a journal than a self help book. There aren’t really chapters to this book. He says that this started out as an email chain with people in silicon valley. After it changed many people’s lives, people recommended that he turn it into a book.
He boils down his process into 4 steps:
1. The mental loop
2. Meditation
3. The Mirror
4. One question
The mental loop is just the repetitive loop that you should play inside of your head which is “I love myself.” You should repeat this to yourself as many times a day as you can.
The meditation is just meditation while mingling in the same mantra. Kamal recommends doing this to some music for seven minutes. He also tells people not to listen to that music at any other time of day because your mind might get confused.
The Mirror is where you look yourself in the mirror and tell yourself that you love yourself. He recommends doing this intensely while looking into your own eyes which seems a bit creepy to me, but hey can’t knock it until you try it right.
The one question that you should ask yourself is whether you would do something if you truly loved yourself. For example, would you eat terrible food if you truly loved yourself? No you wouldn’t.
That’s basically the whole book right there. There is a bunch of other stories in there, but they all relate to this 4 step process.
